Ninemsn employees were evacuated from the Australia Square building in Sydney in May when journalist opened a suspicious package. A safe was accompanied by a note which said “check your voicemail” amid a raft of blacked-out lines.

As the package couldn’t be opened and was said to be making a strange noise, Ninemsn immediately called in the NSW police (which most normal people would do), which in turn called the bomb disposal unit. All staff on the floor were evacuated at 3pm that day.

When the bomb squad finally opened the package, it turned out it was in fact, promotional materials for Ubisoft’s Watch Dogs game.

Ubisoft then issued the following statement -

“As part of a themed promotion for Watch Dogs, our team in Australia sent voicemail messages to some local media alerting them that they’d receive a special package related to the game. Unfortunately, the delivery to Ninemsn didn’t go as planned, and we unreservedly apologise to Ninemsn’s staff for the mistake and for any problems caused as a result. We will take additional precautions in the future to ensure this kind of situation doesn’t happen again.”

This stunt I do find funny in a kind of look back at it now kind of way but obvioulsy when it happened I’m sure was absolutley terrifying for the staff involved. How awkward for the PR company involved, although wahey for all the PR. At least they’ve landed something…but on a different note – how the hell did they think this one was going to go? Note to self – make any promo materials EXTREMELY easy to open.

We’ve all seen it by now but what motivated Ellen to take the selfie that almost broke Twitter?

According to The Wall Street Journal, Samsung spent an estimated $20 million on advertising, which included some product placement. When Ellen decided she wanted to take selfies during the show, Samsung executives were drafted in to train her how to use the smartphone during rehearsals. When Ellen tweeted the selfie, she didn’t mention Samsung but the fact it was taken by a Samsung phone was clear on the TV screen at the time. The placement certainly benefited the major brand as at one point Samsung was getting about 900 mentions a minute on social media.

Samsung has released a statement denying the stunt was pre planned stating:

“While we were a sponsor of the Oscars and had an integration with ABC, we were delighted to see Ellen organically incorporate the device into the selfie moment that had everyone talking. A great surprise for everyone, she captured something that nobody expected.”

It added that “in honour of this epic moment”, which has generated over three million retweets so far, the brand will donate $US1.5 million to two charities chosen by DeGeneres: St Jude’s and the Humane Society.

WOW. What a PR stunt!

The male CEO of a brand new lingerie company that is making waves for its revolutionary and high-tech take on bras for larger breasts has announced that he will get breast implants in order to test his invention.

Kewi Bra founder Muyiwa Olumide firmly believes that any inventor should live and breathe his own product and has announced that he will not let genetics stand between further groundbreaking discoveries. He will undergo breast augmentation surgery as a man next month in order to be able to experience exactly what future Kewi Bra wearers go through and tap into even bigger discoveries. His discoveries will be documented on the brand’s new crowd funding campaign which aims to raise $1 million in order to advance the technology it currently utilizes within the bra and fund further manufacturing.

He said, “As they say, a true entrepreneur should be a proud user of their own product. The bra is made but, we have made new discoveries that can make it even better. That means more costly materials and procedures needed, but the most important factor is delivering a phenomenal experience for the user. I set out to create the most comfortable bra for women with larger cup sizes and that means putting myself in their shoes to get to the root of the problems.

“I will document my experiences of getting breast implants as a man and film the process. I will detail all of my discoveries and how they impact the design and push forward our already revolutionary Kewi Bra concept via our crowdfunding project.”

At the time of writing, the crowdfunding project had only received $700.

The ordeal saw police called by passengers to intervene.

One passenger vlogged (check out the video below) the incident on her smartphone which has since been viewed more than 500,000 times since being uploaded to Youtube.

After the video emerged, Ryanair issued an apology but claimed that passengers had been given water on the plane and said the captain had also called the police for assistance.

Last night a Ryanair spokesman said strong winds forced more than 20 airlines to divert into Stansted from from Heathrow and Gatwick on February 14, disrupting handling and fuelling operations at the airport. ‘After approximately two hours waiting for fuellers, the captain requested the handling company (Swissport) to allow the passengers into the terminal which was locked,’ the spokesman said.

‘The captain switched on the aircraft’s air conditioning while waiting for Swissport staff to arrive and the cabin crew provided water to passengers. When Swissport failed to arrive the captain requested the police to let the passengers into the locked terminal.’

The spokesman said passengers were then given refreshment vouchers.

Last night a spokesman for Swissport said: ‘Swissport staff were under extreme pressure dealing with an unprecedented level of flights and whilst we accept we should have unloaded the passengers sooner we simply had no one available to unload when contacted by the captain. Swissport regret any delay to passengers and to Ryanair.’
